Silver State Glass & Mirror has been answering glass questions in Las Vegas since 1953. We handle everything from a single broken window to full curtain wall systems on commercial buildings, and the questions we get asked every day cover a lot of ground. This page pulls together the most common ones across every service we offer. If you do not see your question here, call us at (702) 382-1400 and someone at the shop will give you a straight answer.
Shower Doors and Enclosures
Are frameless shower doors worth it?
Frameless shower doors cost more upfront but hold up better over time because there are no metal frames to corrode or seals to grow mold around. They are also easier to clean. Most installs in Las Vegas run between $900 and $2,500 for standard sizes with custom enclosures going higher. Call (702) 382-1400 for a free in-home estimate. See our frameless shower doors page for more detail.
What glass thickness do shower doors use?
We use 3/8 inch glass for most standard frameless shower doors and 1/2 inch for larger panels or premium installations. The thicker the glass, the more solid the door feels and the quieter it operates. For very wide openings or panels over 36 inches, 1/2 inch is the right call.
How long does shower door installation take?
We template the space first, fabricate your glass, then install. Template to installation is typically five to seven business days. The installation itself takes two to four hours depending on the size and complexity of the enclosure.
What is the difference between frameless and semi-frameless?
Frameless uses thicker glass with no metal frame around the panels, just minimal hardware. Semi-frameless has a frame around the fixed panels but leaves the door itself unframed. Frameless is the cleaner premium look and costs more. Semi-frameless is a solid middle-ground option at a lower price point. See our semi-frameless shower doors page for pricing detail.
Can you install a shower door on a bathtub?
Yes. Sliding bypass doors, pivot doors, and hinged doors all work on bathtub and shower combos. We measure your tub configuration and recommend the best option for your space. See our sliding shower doors page for more on bypass configurations.
What is a walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower uses fixed glass panels without a door. You walk directly in and out through an open entry. The fixed panel keeps water contained without enclosing the space. It is one of the most popular master bathroom upgrades in Las Vegas right now. See our walk-in shower glass page for layout options.
Windows and Dual Pane Glass
How do I know if my windows need to be replaced?
The clearest signs are fogging or condensation between the glass panes, drafts you can feel when the window is closed, and higher energy bills. If only one pane of a dual pane unit has failed, we can often replace just the insulated glass unit without replacing the whole frame. See our dual pane replacement page for more.
Can you fix a fogged window without replacing the whole thing?
Yes. Fogged glass means the seal on the insulated unit has failed and moisture got between the panes. We replace the glass unit and your window will be clear again. The frame stays, only the glass changes, and the cost is significantly less than a full window replacement. See our fogged window repair page.
How long do dual pane windows last in Las Vegas?
In our climate, most dual pane windows last 15 to 20 years before seals start failing. The extreme heat cycles from cold winter nights to 115 degree summer days stress the seals faster than in milder climates. When seals fail, fogging follows within a season or two.
Can upgrading windows reduce my energy bills?
Yes. Upgrading from single pane to dual pane low-E glass typically reduces cooling costs by 20 to 30 percent in Las Vegas. The low-E coating reflects infrared heat before it enters your home, which makes a real difference when you are running air conditioning against 110 degree summers. See our energy efficient windows page.
Window Screens
Do you repair window screens or only replace them?
We do both. If your screen frame is in good shape, we rescreen it with new mesh, usually same day if you bring it in. If the frame is bent or broken, we build a new one to your exact dimensions. Most repairs run less than $30 per screen. See our window screen replacement page.
What screen mesh options do you carry?
We carry standard fiberglass mesh, aluminum mesh, solar screen mesh that blocks 80 to 90 percent of solar heat while still letting air in, pet-resistant screen for homes with dogs and cats, and nearly invisible fine mesh. Solar screens are the most popular in Las Vegas because of the heat.
Can you make a custom size window screen?
Yes, every screen we build is custom cut to your exact opening. We do not stock standard sizes and hope they fit. Bring your old frame in or we come out and measure, then build it to fit perfectly.
Custom Mirrors and Glass
Do you cut mirrors to custom sizes?
Yes. We custom cut mirrors to any size and shape in our Las Vegas fabrication shop. Rectangular, round, arched, or any shape you need. Bring your measurements or we come template the space and fabricate exactly what you need. See our custom mirrors page.
Can you install a mirror wall in a gym?
Yes. Gym mirror walls are one of our most common commercial and residential installs. We use 1/4 inch plate glass mirrors, cut to cover the wall with minimal seams, and mount them with a track system built for the weight. We have done gym mirrors in home fitness rooms, commercial gyms, martial arts studios, and hotel fitness centers. See our gym mirrors page.
Do bathroom mirrors need special glass?
Standard plate glass mirrors work well in bathrooms. We seal the edges on all bathroom mirror installations to protect the mirror backing from moisture. A properly sealed mirror will last for decades. See our bathroom mirrors page for sizing guidance.
Can you cut glass table tops to a custom size?
Yes. We custom cut glass table tops to any size or shape, drill holes for hardware, and polish edges in flat, pencil, or beveled finishes. All table top glass is tempered for safety. See our glass table tops page.
Emergency Glass Repair
Do you offer 24/7 emergency glass repair?
Yes. We have a 24/7 emergency line at (702) 382-1400. For commercial properties, we respond to broken storefronts, vandalism, and vehicle impacts at any hour. We board up the opening to secure the property and schedule the permanent glass repair for the next business day. See our emergency glass repair page.
How fast can you respond to a broken storefront?
For most Las Vegas and Henderson commercial locations, we can have a glazier on site within two to four hours of an emergency call. We prioritize anything that leaves a property unsecured. Call (702) 382-1400 and we will give you an honest ETA.
Do you handle residential emergency glass repair?
Yes, for urgent situations. If a home window is broken and the property is exposed, call us at (702) 382-1400 and we will respond as quickly as we can. We prioritize commercial calls after hours because businesses are more exposed, but we do not ignore residential emergencies.
Commercial Glass
What commercial glass services do you offer?
We handle storefronts, curtain wall, commercial doors, glass partitions, office enclosures, glass railings, window tinting, security film, privacy glass, and emergency repair. We hold Nevada License C-8 #0004490A with an unlimited bid limit. See our commercial glass page for the full list of services.
Do you work with general contractors on new construction?
Yes. We bid and install commercial glazing on new construction projects across Clark County. We provide shop drawings, submittals, and installation with our own crew. We do not subcontract the glazing work out.
Do you install curtain wall systems?
Yes. We install stick-built, unitized, point-supported, and structural silicone curtain wall systems. We also repair existing curtain wall, including failed seals, fogged glass units, and damaged frames. See our curtain wall page for detail.
Do you serve Henderson for commercial glass?
Yes. We run commercial glazing jobs across Henderson regularly, same crew and same response time as Las Vegas. See our Henderson commercial glass page.
What is security film and does it work?
Security film holds glass together when it breaks, slowing forced entry and dramatically reducing injury from shattered glass. It does not prevent the glass from breaking but it keeps the pieces in place. It is most valuable on ground floor glass, storefronts, and entry doors. See our security film page.
Pricing and Process
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Every estimate is free no matter the job size. From a single cut-to-size mirror to a multi-story commercial glazing project, we do not charge to come out and quote.
How does the process work from first call to finished job?
Call (702) 382-1400 or submit a quote request on our website. We schedule a site visit or ask for photos and measurements depending on the job. We write up a quote, you approve it, and we schedule fabrication and installation. Most residential jobs move from first contact to finished work in one to two weeks. Commercial timelines vary by project size.
How much does a custom frameless shower door cost?
Most frameless shower door installs in Las Vegas run between $900 and $2,500 depending on the size, glass thickness, number of panels, and hardware finish. Standard single-door enclosures sit at the lower end. Large multi-panel custom enclosures with upgraded hardware sit higher. Call (702) 382-1400 for a free estimate.
Do you work with insurance companies for glass claims?
Yes. We work with homeowners and commercial property owners through the insurance claim process regularly. We provide documentation, photos, and written estimates in the format your insurance company needs.
