Glass types
Glass types in the home
Different jobs need different glass. Here’s what goes where.
- Annealed. Standard glass. Fine for picture frames and cabinet panes.
- Tempered. Heat-treated safety glass that breaks into small pieces. Code-required near doors, tubs, showers and low windows.
- Laminated. Two panes bonded to a middle layer. Cuts noise, holds together if it breaks, blocks UV.
- Dual pane. Two panes with a sealed gap. The baseline for a Las Vegas window.
- Low-E. A coating that reflects heat back outside. The one that matters most in the desert.
We’ll tell you which the code and the job call for, and we don’t upsell you into glass you don’t need.

- Fabricate.We cut and fabricate in our own shop. Tempered units are ordered made-to-size.
- Install.We set the glass and clean up after.

Residential glass FAQ
Do you do auto glass or windshields?
No. We don’t work on vehicles: no windshields, no car door glass, no RVs, no boats. We do building glass: houses, storefronts, offices. If you need a windshield you want an auto glass shop, and we’re happy to point you at one.
Do you clean windows?
No, we don’t do window cleaning or washing. We’re a glazing company. We repair and replace the glass itself, install screens, showers and mirrors, and handle window film through an installer. For cleaning you want a window washing service. If your glass is permanently stained or etched by hard water, that’s different: cleaning won’t fix that, and we can tell you whether it needs replacing.
Do you work on commercial buildings or just homes?
Both, under the same license, the same shop, and the same standard. Homes are windows, shower doors, mirrors and custom glass. Commercial is storefronts, partitions, ADA doors and board-up. Do you replace the glass only, or the whole window?
Usually the glass only, when the frame is sound. A broken pane or a fogged dual-pane unit gets the glass swapped and the frame stays. It’s a lot cheaper than a whole new window. We only replace the window when the frame itself is failing.
What is tempered glass and when do I need it?
Tempered glass is heat-treated so it’s much stronger and breaks into small, dull pieces instead of shards. Code requires it near doors, in and around tubs and showers, and in low windows where someone could walk into it. It has to be made to size, since it can’t be cut after tempering. We’ll tell you where your job needs it.
