Fire-rated glass assemblies in Las Vegas

We supply and install complete fire-rated glass assemblies, glass, frame, hardware and label, for stairwells, corridors, rated walls and rated doors. Spec’d to the rating your code official requires, installed by a licensed C-8 glazier.

What we install

Fire-rated glazing we supply and set

Fire-rated glass is tested to hold back flame and heat for a set number of minutes. We supply and install it as a listed assembly, not loose glass. The type depends on the opening and the rating the code calls for.

  • Ceramic glazing. Clear fire-rated glass with no wire. Handles the thermal shock of a fire and reads like ordinary glass. The common choice for vision panels today.
  • Wired glass. The older product, with embedded mesh. Still code-compliant in some openings, but being retired where impact safety matters.
  • Fire-rated safety glass. Meets the fire rating and the impact-safety rule at the same time, for doors, sidelites and glass near a walking surface.
  • Fire-rated insulated units. A dual-pane rated unit where an exterior or curtain-wall opening needs both a fire rating and insulation.

Where the code calls for it

Rated openings in a commercial building

The building code sets a fire rating for certain walls and the openings in them. The rating is written in minutes, commonly 20, 45, 60 or 90, and it comes from the wall assembly and the occupancy, not from us. We supply the assembly listed for the number your plans call out.

  • Stairwell and exit-corridor enclosures
  • Elevator lobby walls and smoke barriers
  • Doors in rated partitions
  • Sidelites and transoms at rated doors
  • Glazed openings in rated walls
  • Property-line walls with a required separation

A standard glass partition is not a rated assembly, and swapping the glass in one does not make it one.

The whole assembly

The rating belongs to the assembly, not the glass

A fire rating is earned by the whole opening tested together: the glass, the frame, the hardware and the glazing method. Fire-rated glass dropped into a standard aluminum storefront frame is not a rated opening, and an inspector will fail it.

We install the complete listed assembly, rated steel or aluminum framing, rated door leaves, intumescent gaskets and the correct glazing tape, and we leave the labels and the paperwork your inspector needs to sign it off.

Working with your team

Send the set, we tell you what we can hold

Send the drawings or the door schedule and we quote the rated openings against them, the same as any other part of our commercial glazing scope. We coordinate with your general contractor and the inspector, and once the rated material is ordered we give you a committed date for the set. We also service and replace rated assemblies in buildings that are already occupied.

Questions

Fire-rated glass FAQ

What does fire-rated glass cost?
It costs more than standard glass because the glass and the frame are a tested assembly. The price depends on the rating, the glass type, the frame and the size of the opening. Send us the openings or the schedule and we’ll quote the actual job.
What’s the difference between fire-rated glass and tempered glass?
Tempered glass is impact-safety glass. It resists a knock and breaks into blunt pieces, but it gives no fire resistance. Fire-rated glass is tested to hold back flame and heat for a set time. Some products do both, which is what you want in a rated door or a sidelite.
Does fire-rated glass need a special frame?
Yes. The rating belongs to the whole assembly, so the glass has to sit in a listed, tested frame with the right hardware and glazing method. Fire-rated glass in a standard frame is not a code-compliant rated opening.
Do you service fire-rated glass in existing buildings?
Yes. We service, repair and replace rated glass and rated doors in occupied Las Vegas buildings, offices, hotels, medical, schools and multi-family, and coordinate the work around the building. We’re licensed Nevada C-8 unlimited number 0004490A, rated 4.9 stars across 400+ Google reviews.
