Plexiglass in Las Vegas: what we cut
Send us the size and we cut it.
Plexiglass is a brand name that stuck to a material. What people mean by it is acrylic sheet, and we cut it the same way we cut glass: to your measurement, square, with the edge finished so it is safe to handle. We also cut polycarbonate, which is the tougher and more expensive cousin.
Bring us a drawing, a template, or the old panel, and we will match it. If you are not sure what you need, tell us what the piece has to do and we will tell you which material fits.
Material choice
Acrylic, polycarbonate or glass
Three materials, three jobs. Here is the honest comparison.
- Acrylic. Clear, rigid, about half the weight of glass and far harder to break. It scratches more easily than glass. Best for glazing where breakage is the worry, for shelving, and for anything that has to be light.
- Polycarbonate. Enormously more impact resistant than acrylic, close to unbreakable in normal use. It is softer on the surface, so it scratches sooner, and it costs more. Best for guards, high-abuse glazing and anywhere a ball or a tool is going to hit it.
- Glass. Hardest surface, best optical clarity, does not yellow. Best where scratching or long-term appearance matters, and required by code in a lot of places acrylic is not.
We are a licensed glazier, not a plastics counter, so if your opening is one where code calls for tempered safety glass, we will tell you that instead of selling you a sheet of acrylic.
Specification
Thickness and sheet size
Thickness is the decision that gets made wrong most often.
Thin sheet is fine for a picture frame, a cabinet insert or a small shelf. As the panel gets bigger it has to get thicker or it will bow, especially standing vertically in an opening. Long spans and anything that has to take a load need more thickness than people expect.
Tell us the finished size and what the piece has to do. We will spec the thickness rather than let you guess at it, because a panel that flexes is a panel that comes back.
Fabrication
Edges, holes and shapes
The cut is half the job. The finish is the other half.
- Saw cut. The plain machine edge. Fine where the edge is hidden in a frame or a channel.
- Polished edge. Cleaned up so it is clear and comfortable to handle. This is what you want on an exposed edge, a shelf front or a tabletop.
- Holes and cutouts. Drilled and cut to your dimensions for hardware, standoffs, cords or fittings.
- Radius corners. Rounded rather than sharp, which matters on anything at hand height or in a house with children.

Desert exposure
What the desert does to plastic
This is the part a supplier out of state will not tell you.
Sun and heat are hard on plastic sheet in a way they are not on glass. Acrylic holds up well to UV and stays clear for a long time. Untreated polycarbonate yellows in sustained sun, so outdoors it needs a UV-stabilized sheet, and it is worth asking for that specifically rather than assuming.
Both materials expand and contract with temperature far more than glass does. In a Las Vegas summer that movement is real. It is why holes get drilled oversize with room for the sheet to move, and why a panel fitted tight in winter can buckle in July. We allow for it when we cut, and we will tell you where it matters on your job.

Give us the measurements and we will give you a real date when we quote, not an estimate we walk back later. Sheet stock and thickness affect it, so we confirm rather than promise blind.
